My experience at the event:

The final distance was only 300 meters off the promised length (which is very common in trail races, since it's tricky to measure the course over hills and forests), but after completing the short course I was quite happy with the results.
I started strong with Andy, and I slowed down only when my injured companion had to relax his stride. On the foot of the only big hill, I accelerated and then I basically pushed until the end, passing a lot of runners.

The course for the short distance was nice. A lot of single track (especially going down) but since the runners were spread over the course, I never ended up queuing or slowing down behind someone else. The big hill was nice and running by the river, in the forest, was different. I sprinted the last km and I ended up just before the 40 minutes mark.

Andy finished maybe 5 or 6 minutes behind me, pushing as well in the last bit after a problematic retun from injury (shin splints are a bitch!)
